Based solely on the photographs she chose to post, what is the image that Jenny is trying to project?...Adventurous? Curious? Brave?

Adventurous, care-free, content, low-maintanece, happy

Do you think she was successful? 

Yes, the pictures she used to post are all based on nature, which shows that she is content with what the Earth has provided her with.

Do you think that Jenny is someone who would be a good role model? A good mother? A good wife? A good friend?

Yes. In my opinion, she portrays content with what she has. To me, it seems like she enjoys the things that really matter, "material less" things that can not be bought. It also leads the viewer to believe that she takes nothing for granted.

How does this change in viewpoint change your interpretation of the image?

I now believe that the man is just installing the picture onto a vacant building. 

Image #3 shows the actual work by Helnwein after being installed in Waterford, Ireland. The name of the photograph is "The Last Girl". From this viewpoint you can see the size and location of the work. The first image you saw (Image #1) was a photograph documenting the installation of this large-scale image.  

With that in mind, describe Helnwein's image in as much detail as you can and in a separate post, record your answers on your Blog. Look at the image closely (Click on it to enlarge). What do you see? Describe it as if you were recounting it in detail to someone who had never seen it. Think about the scale--how could the size affect the meaning?  Think about the material, the logistics and engineering of mounting it.  Is it one contiguous image or is it spliced together or can't you tell? 

This is an image that has been painted section by section and then lastly, put all together. The material of her face is very powdery looking. This large size shows almost every single flaw of her face. This affects the meaning because it shows a more representative image of the girl.

Think about the location--is it urban? Rural? Residential? Industrial? Given the image's location, who do you think will see the it? Who is the intended audience? Describe the mood of the image. What is the expression on the girl's face? Is it blase? Is it engaged? Is it optimistic? Wondering? Melancholy? 

This is in an industrial city. Based on this, the viewers will be everyday people who are walking or driving by on their way home from work for example. 

Finally, consider the title "The Last Girl". What do you think the title suggests? 

I think this signifies that she is the "Last 'girl" who will be plastered as an advertisement without completely perfect features.

What do you think is going on here? 

I think that Helnwein is trying to represent somebody "fixing" and changing a face. 

  Is this an artistic image or a documentary image (or both)? Is the image Photoshopped?

In my opinion, this piece is an artistic image because it is photoshopped and edited to create an emotional piece.

 Try to assign meaning to the image. What do you think the photographer's intent was? 

The photographer's intent was to prove that we as a society constantly change ourselves. 

What does the image say to you?

To me, this says that we need to be able to be okay with ourselves and become satisfied with the way we are with out alteration.


 How does the difference in scale between the man and the girl's face add to your interpretation of the photograph.

The girls face is like the "canvas" that the man is changing.
